| Good old Blake. Spent over 2 years on board and quite a few months on the 6" gun. First task every morning flash up all the amplifiers and balance them. Most amazing piece was the analogue computer which was just like looking at the workings of a gigantic watch. Had to re-learn all my log tables so that I could work out all the tangents/co-tangents etc to prove the info coming out was correct. Then being elevated to the lofty heights of killick and spending months with Shep Woolley in the killick greenies mess while he honed his act. Have no idea what Ted's trawler is....Icelandic fishing boat? |

| It's one of the Navy's MFV's The one I remember best was the Beddgelert which was stationed at Guzz. I remember many because of the story relating to the name: In the 13th century Llewelyn, prince of North Wales, had a palace at Beddgelert. One day he went hunting without Gelert, "The Faithful Hound", who was unaccountably absent.
On Llewelyn's return the truant, stained and smeared with blood, joyfully sprang to meet his master. The prince alarmed hastened to find his son, and saw the infant's cot empty, the bedclothes and floor covered with blood.
The frantic father plunged his sword into the hound's side, thinking it had killed his heir. The dog's dying yell was answered by a child's cry.
Llewelyn searched and discovered his boy unharmed, but near by lay the body of a mighty wolf which Gelert had slain.
The prince filled with remorse is said never to have smiled again. He buried Gelert here".For those interested here's a link to more RFA's MFV Tenders |

Remember hearing a sea dit about the Lion and Tiger sailing out of Pompey. Apparently, Lion signalled the Tiger and asked if she could come up her stern. To which the reply was 'No!' and they hung a shot mat over the stern, just to make the message clear! |
